Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a trenchless technology that provides an installation alternative, along with associated benefits, over the traditional open-cut method. HDD can be used with very little disruption to surface operations, less working space is required, and the installation can be performed faster than traditional open-cut methods.

The advantages of using Electrolock for HDD installations includes:

  • High pressure capabilities.
  • Superior material strength accommodating pull-back, external dead and live loading.
  • Better distribution of thrust or pulling forces around the streamlined socket and pipe barrel.
  • Greater allowable pulling forces than other material options.
  • Generous joint deflection allowances.
  • Fast and easy joint assembly.
  • Performance capabilities are not impacted by elevated temperatures.
  • Strength in the material which does not creep or decrease with time.
  • Pipe wall is impermeable to volatile hydrocarbons, eliminating the risk of potential water contamination through permeation.
  • Minimal pipe movement due to thermal expansion.
